The Town of Cumberland, incorporated in 1821, is a traditionally farming suburb in the Greater Portland area, though few actual farms remain. The town is host to the Cumberland Fair, an annual event that has a running tradition dating back to 1868. The town is serviced by its own school system, which includes Greely High School.
